, Associate Dean, School of Law, Kisumu Campus, recently made history when she successfully defended her second doctor of philosophy (PhD) thesis. The title of her thesis: Socio Cultural and Economic Determinants of Access to the Criminal Justice System by Victims of Spouse Abuse in Íæż½ã½ã County, Kenya,â€ makes a case for spousal abuse to be declared a national concern.

The thesis also suggests the formulation of policy and institutional frameworks that promote family protection. ÌýThe timing of the thesis then, could not have come at a more opportune time than now, in the wake of increasing cases of domestic violence exacerbated by the Covid 19 pandemic. ÌýWe recognise the thesis as no mean feat, and an added reference point on the issue of spousal violence.

Omondi previously made history, in 2013, when she was the first woman awarded ÌýÌýa PhD in law by the Íæż½ã½ã, and the School has every confidence that the University Research and Policy Community, the School of Law, and also the nation willÌý benefit ÌýfromÌý the knowledge, inspiration and leadership of Dr. Omondi.

The University Management and the Community congratulate Dr. Scholastica Omondi, on this well-deserved achievement. Kudos.
