Black History month is celebrated within the month of February in order to remember,听honour and commemorate the historical and contemporary accomplishments of African听Americans. Black History Month provides a听platform听 to collectively recognize their听achievements, while reflecting on the challenges that they have听been able to overcome听and still remain. Notable persons鈥 that are often celebrated during this month include, Martin听Luther King Jr, Malcolm X and Rosa Parks who were vital and instrumental in championing听for Racial Equality and Inclusivity.听The听event which aims to commemorate Black History Month, will usher in a new era of听collaborative engagement with Black Americans and the Diaspora with ACSUS, by hosting a听networking reception to recognize the Black American community in Kenya and Kenyans听who have returned from the US. Additionally, the event will create a significant platform for听establishing a foundation for economic diplomacy between Africa and the US through the听examination of the history of the US through the experience of the African Diaspora. 鈥淏y听appreciating these efforts, we can better understand our own history and the influence the听broad-based Diaspora has had on African societies.鈥 Dr. Patrick Maluki, Chair, Department
of Diplomacy and International Studies (IDIS).
